Description
Restrictive Practice and Positive Behaviour Support
What is the connection?
Regulated restrictive practices can only be used if they are part of a positive behaviour support plan. They can only be used “as a last resort in response to risk of harm to the person with disability or others, and after the provider has explored and applied evidenced-based, person-centred and proactive strategies.
It seems a lot to expect support workers with little or even no professional qualification, to implement positive behaviour supports. But, once you understand the 'shift' in thinking needed to grasp positive behaviour support, things will start to make sense and hence, make the work both easier and logical. We call it; "How to Flick the Language Switch".
